Net Control 2 software uses different methods for blocking access to undesirable websites specified in Internet restriction profiles, depending on the platform (Windows, macOS, Linux), its version, and the version of Net Control 2 software.
The Protocol Layer (Mode 2) is the default mode in Microsoft Windows, provides the better accuracy and reliability.
By default it is intended for use with Microsoft Edge (the new, Chromium-based version, and the legacy Edge), Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Other browsers may require additional adjustments of Windows Registry settings, please contact us for more information.
Important information for Google Chrome and new Microsoft Edge users. Updated on March 2023.
The latest Chrome and Edge updates introduce enabled by default specific features, which prevent Net Control 2 Internet Control Engine to capture information about visited websites and therefore ability to apply web restrictions.
All Net Control 2 versions and updates released after Feburuary 2023 either prompt teachers to disable these specific browser features in an automatic, one-click mode or disable the features automatically if such permission was received before. Therefore, if your license allows using latest Net Control 2 updates, please update student computers first.
If you use earlier versions of Net Control 2 software, please disable the browser features on each student computer, as follows.
