This article was written for Net Control 2 version 9.11 and higher. For Broadcast Desktop-related issues in previous versions please refer to the following article: http://kb.netcontrol2.com/entry/56/
1. Picture does not appear at all.
After clicking Broadcast button in the teacher console on student computers appear a full-screen white window with Remote Desktop Viewer logo. No picture fragments appear in 1-2 minutes of broadcasting.
Solution:
1.1. Try to change the broadcast address:
- in the teacher console, click the main menu command
N > Options > Control Options;
- in Options window open
Control/Broadcast page;
- in Broadcast Mode Connection section:
- select protocol type: "
Broadcast";
- enable (check)
"Broadcast to the following subnets only" option;
- in the list below enter one or more broadcast addresses for your network,
one address per line if several addresses are entered.;
- click OK and restart Broadcast Desktop session.
To find out the broadcast address of your network you need to know IP address of student computers and IP mask of your network.
Example 1. IP addresses of computers are 192.168.1.1 ... 192.168.1.xxx and IP mask is 255.255.255.0 (Class C network).
Broadcast address of your network is 192.168.1.255 (
replace last digit of IP address with 255).
Example 2. IP mask is 255.255.0.0 and IP addresses of computers are 169.254.1.1, 169.254.1.2 ... 169.254.yyy.xxx (Class B network).
Broadcast address of your network is 169.254.255.255 (replace two last digits of IP address with 255).
Example 3. IP mask is 255.0.0.0 and IP addresses of computers are 10.0.1.1, 10.0.1.2 ... 10.zzz.yyy.xxx (Class A network).
Broadcast address of your network is 10.255.255.255 (replace three last digits of IP address with 255).
Example 4. Network has two VLANs (sub-networks), first subnetwork has addresses 192.168.1.xxx and the second subnetwork uses addresses 192.168.0.xxx. IP mask of both sub-networks is 255.255.255.0
Broadcast addresses are:
192.168.1.255
192.168.0.255
(entering several addresses specify them one address per line).

2. Picture appears partially and stays fragmented within more than 1 minute.
2.1. Try to adjust the transfer speed:
- after clicking
Broadcast button in the teacher console at the top-right hand corner of your screen should appear a semi-transparent Broadcast Desktop toolbar. Find and click at the bottom of this window the
"Garbled picture on user side?" link;
- in "Quality" window, move the "Broadcast speed" slider to position
"Slow". Click Apply button;
- wait 20-30 seconds when changes will be applied or restart the Broadcast Desktop session.
2.2. Disable power-saving modes for a wireless adapter on student computers (if computers are connected to a wireless network).
If a special configuration utility comes with a wireless adapter driver installed on student computers, use this utility. Otherwise, open the
Device Manager (Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager button). In the Network adapters section find your wireless adapters, right click it and open its properties. On Advanced tab find power saving mode options and
adjust them for minimal power saving mode or disable power saving features. Presence and name of these options entirely depends on vendor of the hardware and driver version.
