How to update Net Control 2 Standard Edition to Professional Edition

How to update Net Control 2 Standard Edition to Professional Edition.
This article describes how to upgrade Net Control 2 Standard Edition software that is already installed on teacher and student computers to Professional Edition.


1. Manual installation.

To update Net Control 2 Standard Edition version 8 or 9 to Professional Edition on teacher or student computer manually simply install new version of the software over existing installation and restart the computer. In the process of installation you need to specify IP address of Connection Server, which should be installed preliminarily.


2. Remote update student components with standard (.exe) installation package.

In the teacher console (Standard Edition):
- select client computers;
- click Console button on left toolbar
- at the top of the Console window specify the following command:
REGSETVALUE STRING,HKLM\Software\Net Control 2\Server\Config\Global,ConnectionServer,192.168.1.2
where 192.168.1.2 should be replaced with actual IP address/DNS name of Connection Server computer in your network.
- then click the main menu command N -> Help and Support -> Update Net Control 2 Client;
- open the installation package of PRO edition and click OK.
- update teacher module manually.


3. How to update client component of the software if it was installed with MSI package and Active Directory services.

- Unregister previous MSI package from Active Directory (delete the respective Software installation policy);
- create new MSI installation package with MSI Builder tool (http://kb.netcontrol2.com/entry/59/ ). MSI Builder software for PRO Edition you can obtain from your reseller or contacting us. Preparing MSI package you need to set up IP address of Connection Server in default client settings:  in MSI Builder program at step 1 click Create Client Configuration button, specify IP address or DNS name in Client Configuration Dialog on Groups tab in Connection Server field.

Teacher components should be updated manually.
